PREDICTION PIECE: Is it Pacquiao or Margarito? Sports Analytics Inc picks Pac-Man

Tomorrow night on PPV, Manny Pacquiao and Antonio Margarito will go head to head for the WBC’s Super Welterweight Championship. Pacquiao is short-priced odds over Margarito, so it’s obvious he’s a big favorite but there’s good arguments on both sides.

For Manny Pacquiao, this guy is a freak of boxing nature. Nobody should try and dispute his abilities. He is lightning fast, and he has won against some big, heavy opponents in the past. With his speed, agility and explosive attacks, should he come in and fire on all cylinders providing he is not under-prepared and well-trained to take some heavy knocks as he tries to get through the defense of Margarito. Should he succeed in this he can easily win against Margarito.

On the side of Margarito winning, it’s all about size and connecting his shots both head and body to slow Pac-Man down. Starting slow against the quick combinations of Pac-Man could be a recipe for disaster so Margarito will have to go against his normal routine if in the first minute, things don't work his way. However, his slow, flat working style can eventually wear down Pacquiao, and he can avoid the heavy head shots, as he’s going to get hit when Manny charges forward into his defense zone. 

Margarito also is the biggest opponent Pacquiao has ever faced. His reach is 73″ vs. Pacquiao’s 67″ reach, and he has a big 4.5″ height advantage. He also has 6 pounds on Pacquiao at weigh-in which will likely balloon to 10-15 pounds come fight time. 

Finally, there is the need for redemption in this fight. Margarito was suspended by American boxing because he got caught trying to cheat in his fight against Shane Mosley. This fight is the perfect opportunity to clear his name. Who better to do it against but the very best of the best. A new trainer and a burning determination to earn the boxing world's respect again. This fight could do it, if he can avoid the hits to the head that Manny will no doubt get to...

Who will win?
